Medevac help

Members of the Bowie squadron of the Civil Air Patrol are assisting the Maryland State Police and the National Transportation Safety Board as they continue their investigation into last week's deadly Medevac helicopter crash in Forestville.

Capt. Jeff Welch, commander of the Bowie Squadron, along with Cadet Maj. Erich Welch, Cadet Tech. Sgt. Jeff Williams and Cadet Airman 1st Class Joshua Blanks are providing perimeter security as investigators continue to investigate the wreckage in Walker Mill Regional Park. In addition, CAP members are helping investigators mark the location of the various pieces of evidence.

Armed robbery

A man was approached from behind and robbed at gunpoint Sept. 25 at approximately 9 p.m. in the 16500 block of Governor Bridge Road.

The victim told police that an unknown black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black jeans and toting a silver hand gun approached him from behind and instructed him not to turn around and to "give me your money."

The victim complied and turned over $12 before the suspect fled in an unknown direction. A Prince George's County detective arrived on the scene and assumed responsibility of the investigation.

Burglaries

Two men have been arrested for allegedly breaking and entering three Tulip Grove homes in broad daylight. The burglaries occurred Sept. 29 between 10:20 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The first burglarized residence is located in the 3100 block of Teal Lane. Entry was gained through the rear of the house and a .38 caliber hand gun and a cell phone were reported stolen. The suspects were spotted by a witness as they ran from the location.

A residence in the 2900 block of Tapered Lane and another in the 3100 block of Trinity Drive were also burglarized. Though the suspects gained entry through the back of these houses, no property was reported stolen.

Both suspects are black and were each wearing a T-shirt and blue jeans and carrying red book bags. One suspect is 4 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 145 pounds. The second is 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

Crime on the Web

Bowie residents may find city police department "unusual" reports on two Web sites.

In addition to visiting www.cityofbowie.org and clicking on the Police Department tab to find copies of the reports, citizens may also visit www.crimereports.com to find information on crime in the city of Bowie.

"This is an attempt to give access that the media has had for the past two years to the citizens," said Bowie Police Chief Katherine Perez.

The site is relatively easy to navigate. Upon arriving on the site, enter a ZIP code or an entire address and a localized Google map appears with letter- and color-coded tabs. Clicking on a tab will give you the information on the theft that occurred in that area.

For instance, if a visitor to www.crimereports.com enters 20715 into the search area, a map with a list of numerous incidents appears on the right. By clicking on the blue tab labeled with a B, a citizen could learn about a residential burglary that occurred in the 4400 block of Olando Lane. By clicking on the blue tab labeled with a T, one could learn about a theft which occurred in the 12500 block of Chelton Lane.
