Army Reserve 2nd Lt. Michael E. Anderson

, son of Henry and Elizabeth Anderson of Bowie,

has been mobilized and activated for deployment overseas to a forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Operation Iraqi Freedom is the official name given to military operations involving members of the U.S. armed forces and coalition forces participating in efforts to free and secure Iraq. Mission objectives focus on force protection, peacekeeping, stabilization, security and counterinsurgency operations as the Iraqi transitional governing bodies assume full sovereign powers to govern the peoples of Iraq.

Anderson, a support operations ammunition officer with one year of military service, is regularly assigned to the 398th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, Rockville. He is a 2001 graduate of Bowie High School and a 2007 graduate of Bowie State University.

Air Force Reserve Airman Paul M. Williams,

son of Carla Young of Bowie and Kenny Williams of Hattiesburg, Miss., recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.

In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Williams is a 2007 graduate of Oak Grove High School, Hattiesburg.
