Soccer

The South Bowie Sharks U8 boys A soccer team defeated Beltsville 2-1. A lightning-fast forward with exceptional soccer skills, Aron Welsh left his mark as he dribbled in and out of the Beltsville defense and blasted two precision goals into the net.

Bowie goalkeepers Sean Lonergan and Sylas Simley saved several dangerous shots on goal holding down the Beltsville score. Sharks players Shaun Brim, Marc Conn, Tyreese Duckworth, Liam Lonergan, Nathan Peels and George Robinson each played a solid game by making several key plays that helped lead the team to victory.

The Holy Trinity fifth- and sixth-grade blue team won its opening game of the season with a 2-1 score against Mt. Oak. Nk Nkwella and Allison Brown scored a goal each and Elliott Tapscott played a great game in goal making several big saves.

In a friendly rivalry, the fifth- and sixth-grade Holy Trinity blue and white teams went head to head and battled to a 1-1 draw. Carmyn Hayes scored halfway through the first half for the white team and Alex Armstrong from the blue team scored the equalizer with only minutes left in the game.

The Holy Trinity Hawks boys B team came out strong in their game against St. Martin of the Field. Alan Robinson scored two goals in the first half. The opposition retaliated with two goals to tie the game at the half. The Hawks continued to dominate the attack and were able to add another goal by Michael Dudinsky. Late in the second half, despite great effort by Bryce Lane between the pipes, St. Martin of the Field was able to score again to tie the game at 3-3.

In another game against Forcey Christian Academy, the boys B team led within the first 10 minutes with two goals from Robinson. Cory Snowden, with great determination, scored the third goal. Gabriel Higgs made five saves in goal during the first half. After an exhausting first half, the Hawks slowed down a bit and gave up three goals to Forcey, despite a great fight from Lane in the goal. The final score was 3-3.

The boys A team defeated their biggest rival, Annapolis Area Christian School, 4-0. It was the first time in five years that the A team defeated the AACS soccer team. The offense was relentless as it posted 20 shots on goal and the defense held AACS to two shots on goal. Goals were scored by Chris Odoi-Atsem (2), Marcus St. Paul and Justin Kelly. Jacori Hayes had two assists and Alex Phillips had one save in goal.

The boys A team then defeated Rockbridge Academy in Crownsville, 5-0. Scorers were Odoi-Atsem, Jonathan Ware, St. Paul (2) and Hayes in another dominating offensive game. Assists were recorded by Ware (2) and Odoi-Atsem. Phillips had two saves in goal.

The Lady Hawks played aggressively against Forcey Christian Academy in a game that ended in a 1-1 tie. Daijah Fletcher scored the lone goal for the Lady Hawks while Alexandria Miller played an outstanding game in goal. The Lady Hawks put great pressure on the opposition and had several scoring opportunities. It was a great team effort from both offensive and defensive players.

The boys A team continued their hot streak with a 4-0 win over Severn. The offense dominated with 17 shots on goal and the defense controlled the game allowing only seven shots. Phillips and Justin Kelly were stellar in goal with six combined saves. Odoi-Atsem (2), Ware and Eric Rierson scored for the Hawks and assists were recorded by Hayes, Odoi-Atsem (2) and Ware.

In a game against Indian Creek, the Hawks notched a 5-1 victory to improve their record to 5-0. After giving up an early goal to Indian Creek, the Hawks scored five in a row and dominated the remainder of the game. Phillips and Kelly shared six saves in goal. Goals were scored by Hayes (2), Ware (2) and Azaan Wilbon. They were assisted by Hayes (2), Kody Higginbotham and Odoi-Atsem.

The Holy Trinity boys B team played Severn, who scored first but thanks to a great effort by Adam Williams, the Hawks tied the game. The Holy Trinity defense played with great determination through the entire game and Higgs had a great day in goal with five saves. Robinson had two great goals in the second half to give the Hawks a 3-1 win.

The boys B team came out with another win against Indian Creek. With great defensive play, the players held their opponents to a single goal. Higgs and Lane both played outstanding in goal. The offense went on the attack from the start with goals from Williams, Lane and Dosh Jackson (2).

The Holy Trinity fifth- and sixth-grade white team defeated Key School, 2-1, in a thrilling come-from-behind win. Key School scored halfway through the first half for a 1-0 lead. In the second half, Carmyn Hayes scored the equalizer for the Hawks and then with only a few minutes remaining a goal from Nicholas Coleman put the Hawks up for the win. Ben Skinner was fantastic in goal and made several key saves to keep the Hawks in the game.

The Lady Hawks have been improving with each game. In a challenging game against Key School the girls had many shots on goal but great efforts from the Key School goalie kept the Lady Hawks in a scoreless conundrum. Alexandria Miller put up a stellar performance in the goal and gave up only one score to Key School.

In their game against St. Pius, the Lady Hawks put the pressure on their opponents. Fletcher and Leena Zarro scored for Holy Trinity and Miller made 11 outstanding saves. St. Pius played aggressive and came out with a 4-2 win.
