Jayda S. Graham,

daughter of LaJuan Hanna of Mitchellville and Stephen Graham of Upper Marlboro, was recently crowned National American Miss Maryland Jr. Preteen Cover Girl. At the pageant she was first runner-up in talent, casual wear modeling and the actress competitions.

She will compete in the National Pageant Thanksgiving week in Anaheim, Calif.

Graham, a student at Reid Temple Academy in Glenn Dale, enjoys singing and dancing, and is author and illustrator of Sister to Sister Arguments.

, a student at Bowie High School, has been named a semifinalist for the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Martin A. Smith

of Bowie, a divisional vice president and financial professional with AXA Advisors in Columbia, has earned a Certificate in Retirement Planning from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Smith also holds the FINRA Series, 7, 6, 66, 9, 10 and licenses.
