  • Hawks capture 1st GMCAC soccer title since 2009
    Outlined against a blue-gray October sky, Holy Trinity’s Blue team defeated Mount Oak 2-0 to win the Greater Washington Christian Athletic Conference Soccer Championship. In a thrilling game, both teams brought their "A" game and maintained aggressive play throughout the match.
  • BBGC Nationals win Super Bowl
    The Bowie Boys and Girls Club 6-8 Nationals played Sykesville at M&T Stadium — home of the Baltimore Ravens — Saturday at the Youth Football Day of Play. The Bulldogs won 12-6. The game was a defensive struggle in the first half, and the second half looked like it might belong to Sykesville in the early minutes. The Raiders scored on a 30-yard touchdown run in the third quarter to take a 6-0 lead, but the extra point attempt failed.
  • Holy Trinity! Look who’s undefeated
    The Holy Trinity Episcopal Day School’s fifth- and sixth-grade Blue soccer team defeated Mount Oak, 3-0, to remain unbeaten this season. A goal by Jared White put the Hawks up 1-0 at halftime. In the second half Noel Brittain and Ben Tompkins each found the back of the net to put the Hawks up, 3-0. Stingy defensive play led by goalies Brittain and Waverly Harris shut down every Mount Oak scoring chance as the Hawks cruised to victory.

    GOLF: The fifth annual Because You Loved Me charity golf classic will be held Friday at Glenn Dale Golf Course. The funds will go toward the medical expenses of Patrick J. Anastasi, who is battling a rare disease called Gerstmann-Straussler Scheinker Syndrome.   • Holy Trinity routs Highland Park
    Holy Trinity’s fifth- and sixth-grade Blue team kicked off its season with a big win against Highland Park. Sixth-grader Waverly Harris started the scoring with a goal early in the first half to put the Hawks up 1-0. Fifth-grader Ryan Brown scored in his Holy Trinity soccer debut to increase the lead to 2-0.

    VINTAGE BASEBALL:Join the city museums in celebrating an important aspect of Bowie’s history with a vintage baseball game played between members of the Chesapeake and Potomac Base Ball Club. The free event will take place Sunday at 2 p.m. at Huntington South Field, 13299 11th St., on Route 564. Alcohol is prohibited.   • Bowie fields will be chirping next summer
    United States Youth Cricket Association recently announced that Bowie Boys and Girls Club will add cricket to its sports offerings for the summer 2012 season. BBGC has been in operation since 1963 and offers many sports including baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, football and lacrosse. Now cricket, the world’s second most popular spectator sport, has joined that list.
