    Assault

    July 30 at 8:30 p.m., Bowie police and EMS personnel responded for the report of an assault in the 3300 block of Crain Highway. Upon arrival by police, they were met by one of two victims who had been sprayed in the face with Mace.

  • Major hit-and-run on Chapel Forge Drive

    Bowie police and fire/EMS personnel responded Tuesday night to multiple calls for the report of a hit-and-run accident on Chapel Forge Drive at Clearfield Drive.

    The collision, which occurred at 10 p.m., was loud enough that several residents were out of their homes to inspect the damage.

    Skid marks could be seen on Clearfield Drive, then tire marks in a yard which led to bushes in the yard that were run over by the car and then a light pole that was left leaning after being struck.

  • Two injured in crash involving state trooper

    An accident early July 30, involving a Maryland state trooper, injured the trooper and sent a Bowie woman to a local trauma center.

    Maryland State Police say that Trooper 1st Class Darwin Bennett, 24, was en route to a property damage accident at 7:30 a.m. in Bowie. Bennett, who was responding routinely and not using his emergency equipment, was traveling north on Route 301 in a marked 2009 Ford Crown Victoria when he entered the intersection of Queen Anne Bridge Road and collided with a 2005 GMC Envoy that was heading west across Route 301.

  • Suspicious package found in Bowie neighborhood

    For some it seemed like a movie set for "Transformers 3," for others an exciting Friday evening and for a select few, an embarrassing moment.

    Late afternoon July 29, fire trucks, police cars and bomb units with robots descended on the Buckingham section of Bowie in response to a call for a suspicious package. Initial examination revealed a package that displayed all the warning signs of something possibly dangerous inside.

    National Night Out

    The Bowie Police Department will celebrate National Night Out Tuesday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Allen Pond. The event will include police displays, child fingerprinting, free child ID cards and crime prevention information as well as booths for local merchants. Children can meet Spiderman and there will be a moon bounce and free food courtesy of local merchants.

    With the move of the Prince George’s County Communications Center to its new facility in Bowie, comes a new nonemergency phone number. The number, 301-352-1200, should be used for nonurgent incidents such as a vandalism report, neighbor complaints or any other nonemergency situation requiring police, fire or EMS. The nonemergency number for the Bowie police is 301-575-2480, Monday through Friday,
    8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
