Published 11/05/09
The AC Bowie county Division 1 soccer team defeated a strong Broadneck team, 4-0. The game was close throughout most of the contest whereby the only first-half goal was a penalty kick by Nathan Davidson. The second half saw a seesaw battle until midfielder Matthew Surette made a nifty cut-back slide under the Broadneck keeper to give AC Bowie some insurance on the win. Noel Brittain and Justin Zivala added late goals to seal the victory. Playing outstanding defense were Alison Farina, Gabe Mignardi and Jared Byrd. A joint shutout performance in goal was made by Zivala and Michael Farina. Luke Hanno contributed two assists and his all-out hustling play on both ends of the pitch. AC Bowie played an outstanding game that showcased the team's interactive passing, shooting, unselfishness and sportsmanship to earn the team their fifth victory of the season. AC Bowie dismissed St. Philip Neri, 7-1, for the team's sixth victory of the fall and will likely soon battle for the Division 1 League Championship. Again the game featured a close first half, but six AC Bowie players eventually found their way to the opposing net. Davidson opened the scoring in the first half, followed by midfielders Surette and Hanno. Second-half scorers were Zivala (2 goals), Michael Farina and Britain. Tight defensive work was exhibited by Alison Farina, Mignardi and Byrd. A stellar goalkeeping performance was exhibited by Vincent Lewis. The win improved the season record for AC Bowie to 6-2.
