Diversity committee meets to combat area hate crimes

The City of Bowie Diversity Committee held a community meeting June 24 to discuss the recent hate crimes in the Yorktown and Overbrook sections.

Specifically invited were residents of the two effected sections as well as Idlewild and Saddlebrook, the two adjoining sections off Race Track Road.

Present at the meeting were Diversity Committee chairwoman Elveeda Dixon, Mayor Fred Robinson, Council members Dennis Brady and Todd Turner (Turner was the co-chairman until his election to the council), City Manager David Deutsch, Deputy Police Chief John Nesky and approximately 25 city residents.
