| Tougher gang legislation could be on the way

Delegate Gerron Levi (23A), representing Bowie and Glenn Dale, introduced legislation to strengthen Maryland's gang prosecution laws enacted in 2007, which according to prosecutors across the state, is not working. "We have not had a single successful gang prosecution under the law to date," Levi said. The House Judiciary Committee convened a hearing March 2, for HB 756, the Maryland Gang Prosecution Act of 2010. The bill would allow prosecutors to more easily prove that crimes committed by known gang members are, in fact, gang-related.
