Having a baby is supposed to be a happy occasion, shared with family and friends.

That happiness quickly turned to despair for grandparents-to-be Dorian and Michelle Thomas July 21, 2009, when their daughter Dorielle, 18, incurred complications during delivery of her baby, leaving her in a coma.

Dorian Thomas said that his daughter suffered anoxic brain injury due to a lack of oxygen to her brain when she went into cardiac arrest after giving birth. Dorian added that they believe it was the anesthesia that caused Dorielle to stop breathing.
