Run for Kathy continues carrying the baton

A key moment occurs in a running event when one member of the relay team hands off the baton. If the handoff is completed smoothly, the team continues with a chance to win. If one member drops the baton, the race is all but over. Saturday, Oct. 10, the handoff was successfully completed for the Run For Kathy.

For the last 10 years the race and event were organized and promoted by the family of Kathryn Popp Long, who died of cancer. The race is held in memory of Kathryn Popp Long who lived most of her life in Bowie. She died in 1999 from cervical cancer at age 36.
