How stupid do they think we are?

As I wrote in a recent column, both sides in the Arundel Mills slots debate are guilty of heavy spin and will be for the next two-plus months.

But the pro-slots side is the more deceitful. Don't believe me? Just look at the names.

No Slots at the Mall Ad - 2010-09-04

http://bit.ly/cD9i07

Eric, have you even seen their ads?
1st, it says let's use a common sense location where gambling already occurs. Well, if you weren't aware, gambling already exists at the mall. There's a tobacco shop in the mall that sell Keno, Powerball, Mega-Millions, and Scratch-offs. 2nd, it says lets put them in a place where gamblers won't mix with mall shoppers and "kids". Have you seen this:

Really? - 2010-08-30

Eric, if No Slots at the Mall was being honest, they would have named their committee: "Delaying Slots in AA County as long as possible so our benefactors can continue to rake in our Maryland Money and Jobs as long as possible in Charles Town, West Virginia." I guess it would've been too many characters for their twitter account. Given that Cordish has been licensed by the State and the State gets 67% of the revenue from the slots, their committee Jobs and Revenues seems to be absolutely accurate. But let's not let the facts get in the way of the anti spin in AA Co.

Seriusly! - 2010-08-28

The anti-slots "ballot committee" (the official group registered with the state to lobby on the November voter referendum on slots zoning) is called "No Slots at the Mall."

Pretty straightforward.'

C'mon...use a little imagination. Yes, it's straightforward...so what?

He goes on...'The pro-slots group, whose formation was announced today, is called "Jobs and Revenue for Anne Arundel County."

Seriously?'

Yes, SERIOUSLY.

The Cordish group has used it's imagination to come up with a slogan that is going to make people look up and say, "Yes, we could use the jobs and revenue in this state. What do we have to do to get it done?" And that is why we are out there, trying to educate the public on what is really going on here, what they can do to help, and how they should vote if they are in favor of the casino at the mall.

Serious? Absolutely!

Larger Slots problem! - 2010-08-27

I love the idea of money for Maryland and more jobs for Maryland.

Here is the biger problem.
Slots and money bring other NOT wanted activities. Example: Drugs and Crime!

I don't see Drug dealers around my local FYE trying to sell to people looking at the ANIME movies.

You will see Drug dealers trying to sell drugs to people traveling to and from slot machines! As well as other activities crime related!

If you going to VOTE on anything be informed before you VOTE or its like hunting blind you never know who or what your going to KILL!

Look at other States that have slots and gambling. Where are they and how are they profitable?

More lies/hypocrisy - 2010-08-27

In their ads, the No Slots at the Mall group characterize the slots as being inside the mall. The proposed casino, will be on mall grounds, but in a totally separate building, not physically attached to the mall. It will be heavily regulated(That means 21 and over so no kids will even be affected) and will most likely lead to an increase in security in the area. And yet, this same No Slots at the Mall group that doesn't want gambling around kids endorses slots at a racetrack that allows kids in. I'm sure we've all heard of the Maryland Millions

http://bit.ly/a71M2X
"Bolstered by additional marketing and promotional funds a few years ago, Maryland Million has developed a fair-like atmosphere that can appeal to an array of spectators, from seasoned racegoers to families whose kids can enjoy the music, the clowns, face painters, caricaturists and other entertainment activities that blend in with the racing activity."

About location, not jobs - 2010-08-27

This ballot question is about the location, that's it. The Casino can and will be built someplace else if this zoning fails to pass. If Leopold hadn't vetoed the other bill, there would be a second zoning bill in place, for south of 32. The State and the County isn't just going to let the revenue disappear. If it wasn't possible, why would O'Malley be talking up the possibility of putting this at the track (where it belongs).

So the jobs will still be there, the revenue will still be there, and the puppies and teachers will still get the money. I'm not against revenue and jobs, I'm against the location selected for this casino. A vote against question A is not a vote against revenue and jobs, its a vote against the location of the casino.

Are you kidding me Eric? - 2010-08-26

The No Slots at the mall group is just bunch of hypocrytical liars. They claim slots, an adult form of entertainment is not an appropriate place for a so-called "Family-Friendly" mall. I was just in the mall the other day and could point out so many things in the mall that would be considered adult-content and not "family friendly". The mall actually already contains gambling. There's a tobacco store in the mall that sells Keno and scratch-offs. No joke, I was in the FYE at the Mall yesterday, the Adult Movies section, which includes Anime 18 flicks and Playboy movies, is located right next to the kids section. Dave and Busters has so many casino-style games. It's like a mini-casino itself. People are spending their money on tokens that they put into machines in hopes of winning tickets that they can redeem to use to win prizes. How is that not gambling?

Jobs and Revenue sounds about right to me. - 2010-08-26

4000 jobs for AACo.
$30 million revenue for AACo.
What is misleading? What's truly misleading is the false advertising that implies a No vote would lead to slots at the race track. The racetrack is NEVER going to happen. This is MD’s only chance to get this money FOR JOBS AND REVENUE that would otherwise keep going to WV and DE. Hence the name.
