The Last Marathon

Posted: 2010-03-26 09:48:35 | (permalink) | (2 comments)

Every summer, as I repeatedly wake at five to head out for my long run before it gets too hot, as I chafe every conceivable part of my body, and as I carry my running shoes with me on vacation so I don’t lose any fitness, I... read more

For five years I have woken up on the morning of the Baltimore Marathon and thanked God that I was not running that race.  Because for five years, without fail it has been unseasonably hot on marat... read more

Beautiful! - 2010-03-26

Thank you Ann for a wonderful post. I'm doing the Marine Corps Run to Register 10K tomorrow morning and this really helped pump me up for it. Marine Corps will be my second marathon, and I doubt my last.

Oh Ann - 2010-03-26

Now why did you have to go and write such a great post? I ran the Marine Corps Marathon last year, as part of a pact/bet between myself and a cousin and neither of us was smart enough to back down. Well, here we are, a couple weeks ahead of MCM registration this year and I find myself thinking about doing it again (eventhough I ended last year's marathon with two pulled quads, a stress fracture in my shin, and the usual complaints from a body that had just done what I had done). I thought I had successfully tamped down the desire to run it again and then I read an article like this one, that makes me think of that cold October morning and crossing the line 26.2 miles later. Thanks a lot! I guess I'm going to just have to run it again!
